The Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department is seeking a Community Services Representative II (Youth Ambassador Program Aide) to assist in coordinating the Youth Ambassador Program.

The Youth Ambassador Program provides job experience to high school students through participation at special events held by non-profit and for-profit organizations in the City of Pasadena. The Program provides opportunities for each Ambassador to gain valuable work experience as docents, attendants, event planners, and as spokespersons for the program.

This position is a part-time position, supports management-level and paraprofessional staff involved in planning activities, scheduling workshops, overseeing staff during events, and performing routine clerical functions.

The ideal candidate will have experience in providing community services, have background and experience working with youth ages 14-24 in a program capacity, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, be dependable and flexible, and thrive in a team environment. This individual is also resourceful, well organized, and creative in promoting and enhancing program needs and services.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with the Pasadena Community in a role that leads and supports young people in gaining valuable, often, first-time work experience. In addition, the Community Services Representative II (Youth Ambassador Program Aide) will have strong work experience with youth programming and coordinating.

Essential Functions

The major responsibilities of this position are listed.

  • Provides support to the Community Services Division for the City Ambassador Program.
  • Answers, screens, and refers telephone calls, emails, and other forms of client contact.
  • Responds to questions from applicants and the public regarding Ambassador and other City programs and services including clarification of regulations, eligibility requirements, processes, and procedures.
  • Addresses escalated customer questions and complaints over the phone or at the public counter.
  • Participates in neighborhood and empowerment activities which may include facilitating local community gatherings to address neighborhood issues.
  • As a community liaison representative in a community center or facility, provides information and referral services to individuals and groups.
  • Assists in providing direct services offered at a community center, including the physical set-up, maintenance and security of a center.
  • Establishes and maintains liaison with community-based organizations and residents to promote a variety of community services and activities.
  • Works with teens and youth clients on program eligibility.
  • Provides liaison coordination with local and other governmental and community and service-providing agencies.
  • Prepares correspondence, reports and records as necessary.
  • Assists in providing direct services offered at the Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualification Guidelines

Minimum qualifications:

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
  • At least (2) two years of full-time experience in providing community services, social services programs.
  • Knowledge of the local Pasadena community and resources; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Desired qualifications:

  • Experience working with diverse populations, plus leadership in mentoring and organizing volunteers.

  • Experience working with teens and young adults providing community services programing highly desired.

SELECTION PROCESS:
The selection process may consist of any combination of training and experience evaluation, Subject Matter Expert (SME) review and the most highly qualified candidates may be invited to participate in a written, structured interview, performance examination, and/ or departmental selection interview.

VACANCY INFORMATION:
There is currently one part-time position vacancy in the Community Services Division of the Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department. The resulting eligibility list from this recruitment may be used to fill this vacancy and similar vacancies in the future.

FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt

Probationary Period: 12 Months

Special Requirements

Must possess a valid California Class C driver's license and comply with the City's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy during the course of employment.
The employee is frequently required to lift up to 10 pounds.
