What are the responsibilities and job description for the Event Ambassador position at City of Palo Alto?
Under direction from the Marketing & Events Lead, the Event Ambassador is responsible for hosting weekend birthday parties, facility rentals and other events at the Palo Alto Junior Museum and Zoo. Event Ambassadors are responsible for providing a great guest experience by being a host for a variety of events, and may be called upon to assist with Museum admissions as needed.
During weekend birthday parties, Event Ambassadors will assist with room setup, facilitate preselected science and nature programs, and ensure proper room reset. The Event Ambassdor will assist the party host (customer) within the limits of the rental, and will help potential event customers by providing tours, and discussing program options, fees and application information.
We are looking for a warm and enthusiastic person who is gracious even when laying down the rules to our customers. As a representative of the Junior Museum, it's important that this position come across as highly professional, organized, and familiar with the Junior Museum's offerings, layout, and protocols. Because the Event Ambassador will work with children, they must have a California driver’s license, pass a Department of Justic Background check and produce a negative TB test as part of the City’s onboarding process.
Preferred candidates will have experience working with children, understand classroom management techniques, and have a willingness to learn to facilitate our science birthday party programs. These are age-appropriate and fun inquiry-based activities that include experiments, crafts projects, and encounters with live animals. Hosts are trained to conduct the hand-feeding of flamingos, and may handle birds, domestic rabbits, rats, hedgehogs, snakes, lizards, and a variety of invertebrates.
Limited Hourly Position: This is an unbenefited position that is limited to working no more than 415 hours per fiscal year. Flexible work hours determined upon assignment.
