High School diploma or equivalent. Valid Ohio Driver’s License; Must obtain and maintain Valid Commercial Driver's License (with Tanker Endorsement) required within one (1) year of appointment. Must be available for shift work, overtime, holidays and weekends. Open to all non-probationary employees who are members of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 18S.

Position Objectives:
This is semi-skilled and skilled work relating to the maintenance and repair of parking meters and parking equipment, sign fabrications and maintenance, pavement marking, traffic signal maintenance, and a variety of Public Works maintenance activities.
Work involves performance of a variety of general maintenance and construction work, including the operation of automotive equipment. Work of this class involves tasks requiring special knowledge or skills acquired through experience or on-the-job training. General supervision is received from a supervisor who assigns and reviews work. Work is reviewed while in progress and through observation of results obtained. Requires the ability to work independently.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains and repairs parking meters.
- Makes collections from parking meters at regular intervals.
- Maintains and does minor repairs to ticket dispensers and gates.
- Assists private contractor in parking equipment installation and repair.
- Operates dumps, flatbeds, pick-ups, or other trucks in transporting personnel, materials, and supplies; assists in loading and unloading trucks, and occasionally operates snow plows and spreaders. Could be required to operate heavier types of equipment on a relief or trainee basis.
- Utilizes a variety of small motorized equipment to paint crosswalks and intersections; assists in painting pavement edge lines and center lines. Places and drives posts for mounting of traffic signs at designated locations; removes, replaces, straightens, or otherwise repairs traffic signs; assists in the fabrication of signs.
- May supervise laborers or temporary personnel of a lower grade.
- Performs related work as required.
Minimum Requirements:
Education: Completion of high school with 9th grade math proficiency
Experience:Construction and maintenance work related to the area of assignment, including experience in the operation of automotive equipment; knowledge of carpentry, masonry
License or Certification Required:
- Valid Ohio Driver’s License
- Valid Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement required within one year of appointment
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. regularly, and 100 lbs. occasionally.
- Ability to carry 50 lbs. at least 100 feet, and 100 lbs. at least 25 feet.
- Ability to climb up and down ladders, in and out of dump trucks/loaders.
- Ability to bend frequently during the workday.
- Ability to consistently work outside in varying weather conditions and hours.
- Ability to carry materials up and down stairs.
- Ability to drive.
- Ability to hear, see, speak, read, write, and understand.
- Ability to stand for prolong periods.
- Ability to flag traffic.
- Ability to grasp, push/pull.
A different combination of education and experience may be acceptable if deemed equivalent.
Desirable Training and Experience:
Knowledge of:
- Microsoft Word
- The use of small hand tools, reasonable mechanical aptitude, knowledge of small electrical equipment, materials, and standard equipment used in construction and maintenance work.
- The hazards and safety precautions of the work.
- The operation and maintenance requirements of light trucks, paint machines, dump trucks, and similar Public Works equipment. Skill in the care and operation of assigned equipment.
Skill and Ability to:
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Communicate with the public and other employees effectively.
- Effectively supervise personnel when necessary.
