What are the responsibilities and job description for the PLANT OPERATOR TRAINEE [FLSA: non-exempt; SHIFT: 40 hrs/week; Mon. - Fri.] position at City of Oviedo?
Trains in the monitoring and maintenance of the proper surveillance of all wastewater plant processes, equipment and controls to ensure efficient operation of the plant and compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws, and ordinances and regulations.
Performs skilled work in assisting in the operation of wastewater treatment facilities both inside and outside.
Trains in learning to adjust equipment to regulate flow rates or modify treatment processes in accordance with need determined by observation and tests.
Makes plant equipment repairs and calibrations; performs preventative maintenance on plant equipment with direction from operators.
Inputs data accurately into formatted formats for submittal to regulatory agencies.
Checks all plant equipment for proper operation; operates automotive equipment and performs routine maintenance tasks.
Cleans and services pumps, motors, and other equipment and lubricates to manufacturer's specifications. Maintains inspection, activity, and equipment records.
Maintains general cleanliness of the plant and performs various grounds keeping tasks.
May be assigned to shift work. May be required to work weekends and holidays.
Performs after-hours standby duties and responds to emergency situations as directed.
Performs other duties as assigned or as may be necessary.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to carry out instructions relating to wastewater operations.
Ability to learn to perform required laboratory functions necessary for the operation of the treatment facilities.
Ability to maintain accurate records and maintain high standards of accuracy in exercising duties and responsibilities.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
