The City of Overland Park has a part-time Police Cadet position
available in the Police Department.
Job Summary
The police cadet position is specially designed for the individuals to
be immersed in a hands-on training environment geared towards law
enforcement. Each Cadet will be assigned to the Training Unit for work
assignments, training opportunities, educational check-ins, and rotated
throughout the police department for various field and office
assignments.
Duties And Responsibilities
Receives and assists with special events/programs within the Police
Departments operations.
Attends departmental meetings on a regular basis.
Actively participates in the Department, while ensuring retention of
policies and operations.
Attend various trainings including but not limited to firearms, driving,
report writing, dispatching, crime scene investigations, records, etc.
The employee must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of
performance, including, but not limited to, attendance standards and
work deadlines; beginning and ending assignments on time; and scheduled
work breaks, where applicable.
Must be available (especially during regular business hours or shifts)
to communicate with supervisors, customers, and any other persons or
organization with whom interaction is required to accomplish work and
employer goals.
The employee must work the days and hours necessary to perform all
assigned responsibilities and tasks.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Must be between 18 and 20 years of age at the date of hire. Must be a
United States citizen. Must have high school diploma or furnish evidence
of
successful completion of an examination indicating an equivalent
achievement (e.g. GED test).
Must not have committed, been convicted of, had expunged for, or been
placed on diversion by any state or federal agency for a felony crime.
Must possess a valid drivers license prior to beginning employment with
the City.
Must reside within 90 minutes from Overland Park Police Department
Stations.
Cadets are required to enroll as a full-time student at Johnson County
Community College. Educational costs associated with this will be
covered
as a part of employment.
Must pass polygraph examination and background investigation.
Must pass the psychological evaluation, drug screen, and physical.
Must submit a resume when applying.
