What are the responsibilities and job description for the Museum Curator position at City of Opelousas?
FUNCTION:
This is museum staff work involved with the receipt, storage and initial identification of a wide variety of museum objects. The incumbent is responsible for registering, accessing, and cataloging permanent and loan collections; developing forms and record systems for written photographic inventories; providing legal documentation for ownership or temporary loan, and recording the loan exhibit, restoration, reproduction condition, and present location of the object.
Work is performed with considerable independence under the direction of Museum Director and includes the responsibility for overseeing activities of volunteers, tour groups, and assistants.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Completion of high school supplemented by coursework in a wide variety of subjects including art, music, science, math and/or history; experience in public contact and museum work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

MILITARY PREFERENCE:
Five (5) points shall be added to the grade on the open entrance examination for all applicants with military service under honorable discharge conditions, provided that the points are added only after a passing grade or score is attained. Three (3) points will be added to the grade on the promotional examination. Applicants must present DD2l 4 honorable discharge paper to the Civil Service Director to determine eligibility under the Louisiana Constitution.
