The Kennel Coordinator is responsible for managing the daily operations of the animal shelter, ensuring the effective supervision of staff and the well-being of animals. A significant portion of their time is spent overseeing the cleaning and maintenance protocols, managing scheduling, handling front office duties, and maintaining accurate records.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervises animal care technicians and manages their schedules; trains technicians in cleaning and disinfecting the animal shelter; coaches and evaluates the animal care technicians; develops and maintains safety protocols for animal handling and shelter practices.
- Plans, directs, and coordinates daily operations and work plans for the shelter and technicians; handles front office duties including adoptions, redemption, ordinance information, phone inquiries, and public meet and greets.
- Processes and resolves issues with the City License using software; manages records and transactions for the City of Olathe’s online animal licensing program.
- Evaluates stray animals for adoption, or when necessary, euthanasia; addresses essential animal care needs, including medical, dietary, enrichment, and surgery.
Qualifications
Experience: Two years of customer service experience, experience working with animals, and knowledge of animal behavior and breeds are required.
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Licenses & Certifications: None required.
