Employment Status: Full-Time
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Pay Rate: $21.20/hr - $26.50/hr
Experience Required : Three (3) years working in landscape or grounds maintenance including installation, maintenance and repair of sprinkler systems, one (1) year supervisory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the duties of the job.
Minimum Education Requirements: High School diploma or G.E.D.
Department: Building and Gardens.
Direct Supervisor: Director of Building and Gardens.
Supervisory Responsibility: Direct (10); Indirect (30- Including Volunteers).
Primary Work Location: Zoo Setting both indoors and outdoors.
Certification: Valid Oklahoma Class A driver’s license.
Other: This position is safety sensitive. It is subject to pre-employment and/or periodic background checks and drug testing. This position works around animals susceptible to specific respiratory diseases, thus is subject to annual tuberculosis testing.
Job Summary: The Grounds Assistant Manager plans, coordinates, and reviews the day-to-day activities of the grounds maintenance technicians. This position maintains the appearance and safety of the Zoo’s buildings and grounds.
Essential Job Functions
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties:
- Assist in providing a safe environment for both guests and staff; teach and educate on safety procedures in each location
- Assist Buildings and Horticulture Assistant Managers to provide supervision, coaching and corrective guidance for Buildings and Gardens Staff.
- Facilitate the selection of new personnel for assigned areas; manage staff performance, including performance evaluations; recommend performance-based increases and corrective action as needed.
- Ensure proper documentation of timecards, performance opportunities, training logs, and any other documentation associated with the assigned areas.
- Perform daily walk through of each area to ensure the Zoo is clean, safe and ready for guests.
- Work with director to maintain departmental records; maintain organized and accurate files.
- Leads with patience, empathy, flexibility, reliability, and positivity.
- Ensure proper documentation of timecards, performance opportunities, training logs, and any other documentation associated with the assigned areas.
- Coordinates and reviews daily activities of the Grounds Maintenance Technicians.
- Maintains the zoo-wide irrigation; works with animal team’s to maintain exhibit yards.
- Maintains power equipment. Works with contractors. Runs heavy equipment as needed.
- Assist in creating, implementing, and reviewing department protocols and procedures.
- Research, review, and order department equipment and supplies.
- Respond to Zoo “Code” emergencies and drills in accordance with Zoo policy.
- Driving around the Oklahoma City area throughout the year.
- Participate in conservation activities to support Zoo’s mission.
Non-Essential Job Functions
- Perform other duties as assigned.
