License and certification requirements: A Texas State Driver's License is required. Class D Water license from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) is required within the specified timeframe prescribed by the department.

Essential Functions: Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assists in the operation of water treatment and distribution facilities, or wastewater collection and treatment facilities; duties will vary according to job assignment and skill level.
- Collects WT samples, and takes meter readings.
- Observes and monitors manual and automatic equipment; learns the operation of pumps, compressors, valves and other electrical and electronic equipment to control and adjust WT flow and treatment processes; learns Department operating and technical policies and procedures.
- Observes and reports variations in operating conditions; records meter and gauge readings; reports anomalies to supervisor.
- Maintains plant work areas, tools, and equipment in a safe and orderly condition; performs minor preventive maintenance on WT equipment.
- Performs maintenance activities within scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; notifies supervisors of problems beyond the scope of authority.
- Maintains facility work areas in a safe and orderly condition; assists with cleaning and maintaining buildings, equipment, grounds, and property.
- Utilizes proper safety precautions, and assures that safety rules and regulations are followed; reports safety hazards, equipment problems, security issues, and emergency situations.
- Must have and maintain a cell phone for City use to hold this position.
- Supports the divisional operations with regular and timely attendance.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines: High school diploma or GED required AND one year of maintenance experience.
Knowledge Of
- Tools and equipment used in operation and maintenance of WT facilities
- Methods, practices, and standards for compliance to WT regulations.
- Principles and methods of maintenance of WT facilities.
- OSHA safety rules and regulations, and safety standards in utility plant environments.
- Monitoring WT plant operations, and identifying maintenance and safety issues.
- Reading and interpreting gauges and recording devices.
- Closely following verbal and written instructions, and operating and safety procedures.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.
- Effective verbal and written communication
