Description

The Community Service Officer - Student position is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience in law enforcement. To be considered, you must be a graduating high school student or currently enrolled in a criminal justice program. Starting pay is $14.29/hour with a flexible schedule. Must be able to work a number of parades which are typically on holidays, weekends, or evenings. Please apply online and submit your resume by the application deadline. Job Summary: Perform a variety of non-emergency duties that assist police officers in the delivery of services to the general public. Focused attention on the public parks, tennis courts, and beaches within the city.

Examples of Duties

  • Assist citizens to comply with local ordinances and state laws.
  • Patrol the parks, tennis courts, beaches, etc.
  • Assist police officers as needed.
  • Alert the Communications Center regarding safety hazards.
  • Perform the duties of a bailiff for the municipal court.
  • Assist with traffic control activities at special events, parades, etc.
  • Provide information and assistance to the general public.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience:
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and minimum age 18.
  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. The department will consider upcoming graduating senior high school student pursuing career in law enforcement.
  • Good driving record, no felony convictions, and no domestic abuse convictions
  • Enrolled in a criminal justice program.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License.

Supplemental Information

  • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully.
  • Ability to operate motor vehicles as well as the ability to effectively patrol on foot.
  • The ability to present oneself in a neat, clean uniformed appearance is essential.
  • Willingness to perform a wide variety of tasks.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of this position.
  • Ability to understand and retain knowledge of local ordinances and state laws which are applicable to visitors of recreational areas.
  • Ability to understand and retain knowledge of traffic laws as well as laws regulating the use of alcohol and the control of prohibited substances.
