Position Description
Under general supervision, performs manual, mechanical and electrical work involving the operation and maintenance of lift station equipment and grounds. Work includes repairing and replacing pumps, piping and related equipment in the City’s wastewater pumping stations. Work is performed independently in accordance with established operating procedures.
Job Duties

- Conducts preventive maintenance inspections of lift-stations, i.e., inspects pumps, motors, compressors, valves, float control systems and electrical systems.
- Performs general maintenance on lift stations according to manufacturer specifications and departmental policies and procedures, e.g., lubricates motors and equipment, adjusts belts and pulleys, adjusts and calibrates wet well levels, cleans and removes grease build up.
- Performs minor maintenance on lift stations, e.g., replaces packing in pumps and valves, replaces bearings in motors and pumps, replaces wiring.
- Cleans and installs flange piping and pipe-fittings in pump houses and wet wells.
- Installs various equipment and machinery as necessary.
- Performs related duties as directed when such duties are logical/appropriate assignment to position.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent plus two (2) to three (3) years experience in maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical, and/or pump-mechanical motors and systems; or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience. Possess and maintain a valid Florida Drivers License
Supplemental Information
Substantial knowledge of the methods, tools, equipment utilized in the mechanical maintenance and repair of lift station system facilities and equipment.
Substantial knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to pump-mechanical maintenance and repair work.
Working knowledge of electricity as related to electrical motors and pump-mechanical systems.
Skill in inspection and testing of machinery and mechanical equipment for detecting and identifying apparatus and equipment malfunctions.
Ability to operate various hand held tools and repair equipment, e.g., wrenches, pipe fitting tools, power drill, grinder, band saw, ventilating blower, saws, air-compressors.
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Ability to interpret and work from codes, technical sketches, schematics, diagrams and blueprints.
