Role Description The Pool Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a municipal swimming pool facility in Oakland, CA. This part-time, on-site role includes supervising lifeguards and aquatic staff, monitoring pool activities to ensure safety, and enforcing all city and facility rules. The Pool Manager coordinates schedules, manages opening and closing procedures, and ensures that water quality, equipment, and facilities meet health and safety standards. The role involves handling customer inquiries, supporting swim lessons and recreational programs, maintaining accurate records of attendance and incidents, and collaborating with city recreation staff to deliver high-quality aquatic services to the community.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated skills in pool operations, including monitoring water quality, overseeing facility maintenance, and ensuring safe use of equipment.
  • Experience in staff supervision and scheduling, with the ability to lead, train, and support lifeguards and other aquatic personnel.
  • Strong safety and emergency response skills, including knowledge of CPR, first aid, and rescue procedures; relevant certifications are highly desirable.
  • Customer service and communication skills to interact effectively with pool users, caregivers, and community members.
  • Organizational and record-keeping skills for tracking attendance, incidents, maintenance needs, and program activities.
  • Ability to work on-site in Oakland, CA, including weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed for pool operations.
  • Prior experience in aquatic management, recreation, or similar public facility roles preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training or certification in recreation management or aquatics is a plus.

License or Certificate / Other Requirements

  • Current Red Cross certifications in Water Safety Instruction, Lifeguard Training, Standard First Aid, Basic Life Support, CPR, and all guidelines outlined in Title 22 of the state code.
