This is an entry-level support position responsible for assisting in the delivery of arts and sports programming at the Norwalk Recreation Center. Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Center Manager, the incumbent assists in setting up activities, supporting participants during programs, and maintaining equipment and supplies. Work is performed according to established procedures and schedules set by supervisory staff. The employee in this class does not independently design or develop recreation programs; rather, they carry out assigned tasks in support of a structured recreation program. This role is well-suited for individuals pursuing studies or early experience in recreation, education, physical education, or a related field.

General Duties:
- Assists in setting up and breaking down equipment and supplies for arts, crafts, and sports activities as directed.
- Supports participants during scheduled programs, providing encouragement, basic instruction, and safety supervision under the direction of the Recreation Center Manager.
- Helps maintain a clean, organized, and safe program environment; reports hazards or maintenance needs to supervisory staff.
- Takes attendance and assists with participant registration and basic recordkeeping as assigned.
- Assists with inventory of supplies and equipment; notifies supervisor when materials need to be restocked or repaired.
- Helps enforce activity rules and center safety regulations respectfully and consistently.
- Assists in orienting new participants and communicating program schedules and expectations.
- Supports volunteers and program aides in assigned tasks under the guidance of the Recreation Center Manager.
- Coordinates with the Events & Marketing Recreation Leader on logistical support for special events as needed.
- Support center staff in the day-to-day supervision of the center, ensuring a safe, orderly, and welcoming environment for all

- Basic knowledge of or interest in recreational arts, crafts, and/or sports activities.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions from supervisory staff.
- Ability to interact positively and patiently with community members of diverse ages and backgrounds.
- Ability to assist in maintaining order and safety during group activities.
- Ability to perform basic recordkeeping and organizational tasks accurately.
- Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team and take direction willingly.
- Physical ability to assist with activity setup, participate in recreational activities, and remain on feet for extended periods.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a willingness to learn on the job.
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
- (A) One (1) recreation season or three (3) months of paid or volunteer experience assisting with arts, sports, or related recreation activities;
- (B) Current enrollment in or completion of coursework in Recreation, Physical Education, Fine Arts, Education, or a related field at an accredited college or university;
- An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
