Description of Work
Position Definition: The Norwalk Public Library as a Passport Services Agency is overseen by the Library Director and managed by Adult Services Managers at both of our library locations. The part-time Passport Acceptance Agent will be responsible for upholding the legal responsibilities as a Passport Acceptance Agent. This includes the review and intake of documents, forms and identification related to completing passport applications. The Agent will ensure documentary evidence of United States birth or naturalization and record the evidence submitted for proof of identity. The agent then forwards the case for adjudication. Agents must neither participate in any relationship with another source nor deliver another service that could be perceived as a conflict-of-interest.
Example of Duties:
1. Greet & assist patrons upon entering passport office.
2. Answer questions associated with the passport application process.
3. Review and process passport applications this includes:
A. Verifying forms, documents, identification and other required information for proof if identity
B. Taking passport photos
C. Accepting payment associated with State Department and processing fees
4. Other duties as assigned

5. Conversational Spanish and/or Haitian Creole language ability a plus.

9. Excellent attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.

Minimum Qualifications
A U.S. citizen or U.S. national who with a High School Diploma or equivalent and at least one (1) year of complex administrative work. Must also meet the requirements to be set forth by the United States Department of State Passport Agency.
United States Department of State eligibility requirements for passport acceptance agent:
(1) Is a U.S. citizen or a U.S. non-citizen national;
(2) Is 18 years of age or older;
(3) Is a permanent employee, excluding ad hoc, contractual, and volunteer employees; and
(4) Does not have a record of either:
(i) A Federal or State felony conviction; or
(ii) A misdemeanor conviction for crimes involving moral turpitude or breach of trust, including but not limited to
embezzlement, identity theft, misappropriation, document fraud, drug offenses, or dishonesty in carrying out a responsibility involving public trust.
