What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Planner Scheduler position at City of North Port?
This position is responsible for the planning, estimating, and scheduling of maintenance work from service requests or work orders. Expedites operations that delay schedules and alters schedules to meet unforeseen conditions. This position also acts as the backup to the Infrastructure Supervisor and is integral in responding to complex customer inquiries.
- Receives and reviews daily service requests; prioritizes and coordinates work schedules to meet work request objectives; identifies completion dates.
- Conducts field or site investigations including guiding the Infrastructure Inspector.
- Responds to escalated customer inquiries within three business days of receiving the service request or work order following evaluation by an Infrastructure Inspector.
- Coordinates with supervisors, superintendents, managers, Infrastructure Inspectors, and others within the division or department in the planning and scheduling of work.
- Updates work orders in the Work Management System as necessary after work is estimated and scheduled, assigned, and completed.
- Provides customers with schedules of planned work and updates on any changes in work schedules.
- Plans, estimates, and schedules routine and preventive maintenance work.
- Prepares and submits purchase requisitions for materials, equipment, and tools relating to planned work.
- Implements, coordinates, and enforces safety programs and practices in support of operations.
- Evaluates and anticipates safety situations and implements appropriate remedies including safety trainings.
- Generates reports to verify accuracy of work order information entered in the Work Management System.
- Acts as the Infrastructure Supervisor in cases of absence and as needed.

- Knowledge of basic principles, standards and practices of assigned department.

- Ability to read plans and to interpret and apply the knowledge from the plans in the field.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic and geometry to calculate and determine volume, area, distance, and elevation.
- Ability to use computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and enter data accurately from a wide variety of source documents.
- Ability to plan, organize and use mature judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions in accordance with established policy.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and other employees.

Additional requirements include balancing, bending, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
Position requires the operation of a City vehicle.
(Occasional=1-3 Hrs.; Frequent=3-5 Hrs.; Constant=5-8 Hrs. – Per Workday)
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma is preferred.
- · Eight (8) years of experience in maintenance planning, scheduling functions or related experience.
(A comparable amount of relevant training, education and/or experience may be substituted for the above qualifications.)
Licenses and Certifications:
Possession of and the ability to maintain a valid Florida driver’s license is required.
Emergency Response Responsibility
Every City employee has emergency response responsibilities, though not every position will require routine assignments during an emergency event. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official job description. Assignments in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature, with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically and operationally challenging conditions.
