What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Supervisor position at City of North Port?
Under the general direction of the Recreation Manager, this position is responsible for the development, implementation, and supervision of comprehensive recreational service delivery to the public. Areas of assigned duties may include day to day operations and management of community centers, special facilities, rental services, special events and recreational programming for all age groups.
- Assists Parks and Recreation Manager Administration in the delivery of the Department’s operations and the oversight of the City’s park system.
- Coordinates and manages all phases of assigned recreation programs, events and services.
- Assists with planning and monitoring of budget for activities, projects, programs and services; including preparing and administering grants.
- Supervises and evaluates assigned staff, including training and advising staff of expectations, rules and regulations, proper protocol and internal controls.
- Evaluates and researches trends in recreation and park offerings.
- Trains staff on program/event development and post program/event analysis.
- Works with the City’s IT department and to manage the recreational processing software.
- Schedules and administers the work of assigned personnel to ensure recreation facilities, events and programs are properly staffed, including tracking time and attendance.
- Addresses issues pertaining to recreation facility management and public participants.
- Coordinates and develops plans for community activities and use of facilities, including preparation and monitoring of rental agreements.
- Coordinates and oversees the procurement of equipment and materials needed for recreation facilities and programs.
- Prepares and compiles data for statistical summaries and reports related to Parks & Recreation activities and services.
- Ensures that recreational facilities and grounds are maintained in a clean and safe condition.
- Works collaboratively with a variety of community organizations, leagues, schools, and citizens.
- Participates in the development of Parks & Recreation goals and objectives as well as policies and procedures.
- Assists in the marketing of programs, community input opportunities, events and services and associated sponsorship procurement.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of recreation program development, implementation and administration.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of employee supervision, leadership, coaching and evaluation.
- Skilled in the use of small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
- Skilled in using computers for word processing and accounting purposes.
- Ability to interpret and implement customer service related concepts, policies and procedures to maintain and improve service delivery and customer satisfaction.
- Ability to identify and resolve complex customer service requests and inquiries.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends.
- Ability to prepare statistical summaries and reports, maintain records and prepare budget documents.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in oral and written business communications.
- Ability to develop and maintain a well-trained customer service team which delivers high quality customer service.
- Ability to plan, organize and use mature judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions in accordance with established policy.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City officials, other employees and the public.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation, Physical Education, Public Administration or related field.
- Two (2) years of responsible related experience in parks and recreation, program and facility management or related field.
- Two (2) years supervisory experience.
(A comparable amount of training, education and/or experience may be substituted for the above qualifications.)
Licenses and Certifications:
- Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Florida driver's license by date of hire.
- Possession of or ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications within one (1) year of hire.
- Crowd Management certification preferred.
- Certified Parks and Recreation Professional preferred.
Emergency Response Responsibility
Every City employee has emergency response responsibilities, though not every position will require routine assignments during an emergency event. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official job description. Assignments in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature, with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically and operationally challenging conditions.

Salary : $66,874 - $106,998
