The North Platte Public Library is seeking a part-time Technology Assistant. The Technology Assistant will perform technical and end-user assistance duties in the Technology Learning Center (computer lab) and creation station (makerspace) areas of the library. This employee will also perform work in the areas of assisting patrons with software/internet/mobile device issues, reference questions, teaching patrons to use equipment safely, and basic hardware maintenance.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist patrons in using the internet, email, and a variety of office or design software.
- Update and maintain the library’s social media sites in support of advertising library events.
- Perform basic and complex online research and reference work.
- Perform basic hardware and printer maintenance.
- Instruct patrons on the safe use of equipment.
- Maintain and update the library’s calendar software for booking spaces and equipment, print and distribute library forms and brochures.
- Create and execute public workshops in areas of crafting, software use, equipment uses, etc.
- Participate in training and implementation of library policies and procedures.
- Upon request, open and close the library; work evenings and weekends.
- All other duties as assigned.
Preferred Talents:
- Thorough working knowledge of business office technology including desktop computers, microfilm readers/printers, multi-line telephones, copiers, etc.
- Knowledge of productivity and browser software.
- Knowledge of personal computers and mobile devices.
- Ability to keyboard from clear copy at the rate of 30 WPM.
- Ability to perform basic hardware maintenance.
- Ability to accurately handle monetary transactions.
- Ability to communicate in writing and verbally by phone, email, advertisements, in-person, etc.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and library patrons.
- Creative maker with graphic design abilities (strong plus)
- Curious, self-driven learner
- Able to assist individuals of all skill levels with technology needs
- Skilled in supporting a wide range of personal devices (all makes/models)
- Comfortable delivering presentations to groups as well as providing one-on-one support
- Strong time‑management skills and self‑motivated work style
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience in teaching computer software classes and web page design and/or website management.
- Proficient in hardware and software implemented and in use at the Library Department.
Pay: From $19.87 per hour
