Assists in the supervision of a comprehensive City recreation program.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS:
This is professional and supervisory work in planning, coordinating and supervising the operation of the Recreation Division of the City Parks and Recreation Department. The employee in this class is responsible for planning, promoting, coordinating and supervising a year round recreational program designed to meet the needs and interests of citizens of all ages. Work extends to directing athletics, centers, playgrounds, tennis, swimming and special events programs of the department. Work is performed under direction of the Recreation Superintendent, but the Supervisor exercises independent judgment in carrying out the day to day activities of the recreation program.
Equipment Used/Job Location: Operates a personal computer, printer, calculator and copierBachelor’s degree with a major in recreation administration plus extensive experience in several phases of community recreational programs, some of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity

An equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Florida Drivers License

- Plans and directs an expanding flexible program of recreational activities for all segments, groups, age and interest levels of the City;
- Organizes, administers and evaluates the activities and use of public recreational facilities such as centers, parks, playgrounds, pools, tennis courts and athletic fields;
- Promotes, plans, develops recreational programs and approves plans and procedures prepared by staff members;
- Assists in evaluating adequacy of existing physical facilities for recreation and assists in securing needed replacements, alterations and additions;
- Organizes and directs through subordinates, a comprehensive recreation program for all citizens;
- Supervises the keeping of necessary records and preparation of reports;
- Confers with and assists the Superintendent in conducting local studies and preparation of special and annual reports;
- Assists the Superintendent in personnel matters, including recruitment, selection and training; development and maintenance of good work relationships and evaluation of employees and positions;
- Makes public contacts in an effort to promote recreational activities and to assist representatives of other groups in developing and extending recreation programs;
- Represents Recreation Division at conferences and workshops.

- Ability to develop and execute a well-rounded program of recreational activities;
- Ability to cooperate with and interpret recreation philosophies to City authorities, public and private groups and agencies, and the general public;
- Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with subordinates and to promote and maintain high morale and enthusiasm;
- Ability to exercise good judgment.
Salary : $58,470 - $87,705
