What are the responsibilities and job description for the CRIME PREVENTION SPECIALIST position at City of North Miami Beach?
Disseminates current information on methods of preventing various crimes and promoting community safety through public contact that includes the use of training seminars, lectures, group discussions and by attending various meetings, which include but are not limited to, Citizen Crime Watch meetings, Business Crime Watch meetings, School Crime Watch meetings and other meetings with civic and/or professional association, etc. Prepares, coordinates and implements special events, projects and programs to reduce crime and improve community safety that have been approved by the Crime Prevention Unit Supervisor and/or the North Miami Beach Police Department, in both and indoor and field setting.

- Must have the ability to function in a fast paced environment within the police department’s crime prevention unit while promoting the police departments views on
- Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, lecturing to various groups on modern crime prevention and community safety issues, developing, implementing, and coordinating various programs, events, seminars and classes relating to crime prevention and community safety.
- Duties include working with various volunteer groups such as the Police Athletic League (PAL), Police Explorers, School Crossing Guards (Part-time employees) and other volunteers and assist with their operation.
- Will be required to receive training in crime prevention and community safety skills and update the training on a regular basis.
- Duties will also include operating various office machines, computer programs and other equipment related to the overall functioning of the unit.
- Required to perform these duties during the normal daytime work hours, after hours in the evenings and on weekends, depending on a scheduled event, etc.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration or Communications. Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Formal training and/or certification form Municipal, County, State, or Federal Law Enforcement Agency or Recognized Professional Crime prevention or Community Policing Association in the areas of residential and/or commercial crime prevention, community safety and/or community policing techniques.
- Minimum of one (1) year full-time employment or three (3) years of progressive volunteer work with a law enforcement or criminal justice agency with experience in the areas of crime prevention, community safety, community policing or coordinating a citizens or business crime watch program. Three (3) years full-time experience preferred.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license.
- Must also have considerable experience in developing, implementing and/or coordinating various crime prevention or community safety programs and events and must be skilled in public speaking on the above topics at various public and private forums.
- Physical demands of the position are in excess of sedentary work; the position requires seizing, holding, grasping, walking, standing,
- Reaching, stooping, crouching, climbing stairs etc.
- Must be able to lift 10-15 lbs.
- Must be physically able to operate various automated office machines, which include a computer, printer, , fax machine, cell phone, etc. Must be physically able to exert up to thirty pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or other wise move objects. Work involves walking or standing for periods of time. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights up to fifteen pounds frequently.
