What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Center Supervisor position at City of North Miami Beach?

This position ensures compliance with applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures and Fair Labor Standards Act. Under limited supervision, manage, coordinate and supervise programs, activities and staff at a community center and reports to the Recreation Manager.

  • Performs supervisory duties including instructing, assigning and reviewing work, planning, maintaining standards, coordinating activities and recommending disciplinary action as needed.
  • Responsible for ensuring safe operating conditions of the community center, playgrounds, fields and park equipment for patron use. Enforce all safety rules and regulations per department standard.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Munis. Rec Trac or any other recreation software.
  • Develop plans, organize, implement and maintain recreation programs as needed to meet the needs of patrons.
  • Collect payments for all paid programs.
  • Coordinates and/or Assists in transporting program participants to various locations.
  • Organizes and/or assists in promoting and coordinating athletic activities including intramural programs, sports camps and awards ceremonies.
  • Assists with planning and execution of in-services, workshops & personnel trainings.
  • Prepares tournament schedules.
  • Prepares paperwork for athletic field permits.
  • Ensures safe and sanitary conditions of facilities, fields and athletic equipment.
  • Coordinates and/or oversees maintenance and preparation of all athletic fields.
  • Maintains and conducts safety inspection of all fields and athletic equipment.
  • Monitors the operates powered equipment as needed.
  • Maintains inventory of sports, athletic and recreation equipment.
  • Completes, submits and follows up on work orders as needed.
  • Coordinates and oversees facility rentals. (such as meetings, parties, receptions, etc…)
  • Process and monitor all contract programs.
  • May serve as liaison on City boards and committees.
  • Attend supervisor meetings, professional seminars, conferences and workshops as required.
  • Assists in the development of the facility budgets and monitor expenditures.
  • Promotes community awareness concerning park and recreation activities through distribution of brochures, flyers, social media and community meetings.
  • Prepare and process various facility reports and records as required.
  • Maintain facility inventory of equipment, materials and supplies; order as needed.
  • Demonstrates superior customer service, integrity, be fiscally responsible, shows a commitment to innovation and maintains efficiency.

  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Management, Physical Education, Public Administration or minimum of four (4) years of experience in recreation and/or physical education or two (2) years of experience at the supervisory level; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. 
  • Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license with minimal citations. 
  • FRPA or equivalent professional certification preferred. Active involvement in professional organizations is highly desired. (FPRA or NPRA)
  • Preferred knowledge of The Children Trust program.
  • First Aid/ Adult and child/infant CPR certification required.
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, methods and practices of the Department pertaining to the position.
  • Knowledge of recreation programming, scheduling, planning and implementation of processes and practices.
  • Knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques.
  • Ability to provide counseling, instruction and coaching to staff and the general public.
  • Knowledge of the use of various types of equipment and tools needed pertaining to position.
  • Knowledge of terminology used within the department.
  • Ability to coordinate and work well with others.
  • Ability to make sound and educated decisions.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with various individuals and groups in an effective manner.
  • Ability to learn and apply new skills as needed in order to promote efficient completion of duties.
  • Possess good organizational supervisory and human relations skills.
  • Must have use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through personal contact. The use of the telephone and/or other City-issued technology devices. Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach and twist under desks and around furniture; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight up to 20 lbs.; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information. Salary : $52,127 - $78,190
