Position: Class I - III Operator (Based on Experience and License) Status: Full-Time
Reports To: Superintendent & Operations Manager of Water Treatment Plant
Classification: Unclassified (not subject to Civil Service)
Collective Bargaining Unit: Utility Workers Union of America, Local 605
Supervises: This position has no supervisory responsibilities
Required Knowledge and Abilities: Water Treatment Plant Operators are responsible in assuring safe and usable water;
must possess proper licensure and experience with a sensitivity to the importance of the work to be performed, including the accuracy required to maintain a high standard of quality. Must have the ability to work an irregular schedule and under adverse conditions; ability to deal with the public in a patient, but firm manner; and be responsible for duties in the maintenance and operation of a Water Treatment Plant. Must have ability to stand for periods of time and to lift and carry heavy loads.
Qualifications
Education beyond high school with vocational or trade school training helpful. Must have at least one year of experience working in the operations of a Water Treatment Plant having experience with lab and equipment; the ability to use hand tools and possess knowledge of mechanical and electrical tools; some knowledge or experience in sewer and water maintenance helpful; have experience with and the ability to operate Water Treatment Plant equipment.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATIONS: Must possess and maintain a Class I - III Operator’s license and any further required continuing education hours to fulfill requirements of The Ohio EPA.

Essential Duties
- Operate valves and gauges to control the flow of water
- Take hourly and daily tests of water
- Monitor gauges and meters, and record readings
- Adjust chemical feeders and re-supply as required
- Assist in the preparation of various EPA reports
- Perform custodial and light maintenance work
- A team player responsible for cleaning the facility and equipment, monitoring the condition of equipment, and reporting service requirements. Also, assisting in the minor maintenance of equipment, such as lubricating motors and blowers; answer telephone calls and provide information, and take action to resolve problems either personally or by referring to appropriate personnel.
- Work requires a strong level of responsibility and autonomy with ability to professionally work with minimal supervision
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; computer proficiency with excellent documentation skills
- Ability to take direction and seek clarification as needed
- Flexible with work hours to fit the operational business needs
- Perform related work as assigned or required.
