The City of Norfolk's Department of Human Services is seeking to fill a Youth Detention Specialist II positions for the Juvenile Detention Center. Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the safety, security, control, custody, care, and discipline of residents in secure detention. This position maintains facility safety by stringently adhering to Juvenile Detention policies, procedures, and security measures within the facility.

The NDHS is seeking a Youth Detention Specialist II to maintain safety and security by supervising youth and staff, monitoring security cameras, responding to violent situations and implementing and enforcing policies and procedures.
Departmental Hiring Range: $42,629.00 -$49,023.35
Essential functions include but are not limited to:- Provides direct supervision of clients by observing clients' daily routine inside and outside the facility and transporting them to and from school, doctors’ appointments, court, and hospitals.
- Participates in counseling by leading or facilitating groups, activities, and interventions.
- Documents daily and weekly contacts by writing weekly and quarterly reports and court reports to be provided to the courts.
- Supervises, schedules, assigns and evaluates subordinates and volunteers.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise subordinates and work in a team environment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
No experience required.
- Valid Driver's License.
- CPR Certification.
- Handle With Care Restraint Certification.
- First Aid Certification.
- Medication Certification within six months of hire.
- Must have the ability to work any shift (days/evenings/midnights) including weekends and be available to work overtime when required to meet operational needs.
Work Schedule:
- May be required to work any one of three shifts during a 40-hour workweek including weekends and holidays.
- 1st shift (6:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.)
- 2nd shift (2:30 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.)
- 3rd shift (10:30 p.m. - 6:30 a.m.)
