The General Services Facilities Maintenance Division is responsible for the repair and maintenance of over 250 city government facilities, including office buildings, libraries, public safety facilities, recreation centers, pools, the Virginia Zoo, Nauticus, and downtown entertainment venues. The Division employs skilled trades and operations staff who perform electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and other essential services to keep city facilities safe, efficient, and welcoming for residents, visitors, and staff.

Within this Division, the SevenVenues Maintenance Team provides specialized support to Norfolk’s cultural and entertainment venues, including Scope Arena, Chrysler Hall, Harrison Opera House, Wells Theatre, Attucks Theatre, Harbor Park, and the MacArthur Memorial. These unique public assembly facilities host concerts, sporting events, theatrical performances, and civic events, making this a fast-paced, dynamic work environment where reliability and customer service are critical.

The Facilities Maintenance Division is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic II to join the SevenVenues Maintenance Team. This position performs a wide range of general maintenance and repair tasks across multiple entertainment and cultural facilities, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and overall building upkeep. The role requires the ability to identify issues, troubleshoot problems, and complete preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient facility operations.

In addition to routine maintenance, this position supports event preparation and operations, including setup, breakdown, and responding to facility needs during events. The Maintenance Mechanic II responds to service calls, documents work in Asset Essentials, and collaborates with staff, tenants, and contractors across multiple venues and occasional off-site locations. This is a customer-facing role that requires flexibility, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to maintaining high-quality facility conditions.

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on building systems, including lighting, plumbing, mechanical components, and general facility infrastructure. This includes changing filters and belts, inspecting bolts, pulleys, motors, and pumps, lubricating bearings, cleaning equipment and clearing drain lines and pans

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair equipment such as pumps, motors, valves, switches, fixtures, and related building systems.

  • Respond promptly to service requests, operational issues, and facility needs, prioritizing work based on safety and operational impact.

  • Support event operations by preparing facilities, monitoring conditions during events, and resolving issues in real time.

  • Document all work performed in the work order management system, including labor hours, detailed notes, and identified deficiencies.

  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized mechanical rooms, workspaces, and equipment areas.

  • Serve in a duty role as assigned, responding to radio and phone communications to coordinate facility support during operations and events.

  • Provide professional customer service through clear communication with tenants, contractors, staff, and event personnel.

  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, policies, and procedures, including OSHA requirements and hazard identification.

  • Support emergency response activities, including weather events and facility recovery efforts, as required.

  • Collaborate with supervisors and team members to support facility operations and meet service expectations.

  • Maintain accurate timekeeping, attendance, and work reporting in accordance with City policies.

Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational and technical processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.

Required:
  • Two years of experience as maintenance mechanic. 
Preferred:
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance on commercial HVAC systems.
  • Valid Driver's License required. 

Work Schedule: 

  • Tuesday-Saturday 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with off-days rotating every 3 months.

  • Flexibility is essential, as work hours may occasionally include evenings, weekends, or holidays to support events and facility needs.

  • On call duties may be required on rotating basis.  

Signing Bonus: 
  • This position is eligible for a $5,000 signing bonus.




Salary : $46,794 - $53,698
