Description
The City of Norfolk's Department of Libraries is currently seeking a Supervising Librarian I for its Richard A. Tucker Memorial Branch. The selected candidate manages the daily operations of the facility to include staff supervision, scheduling, facility maintenance, develops emergency plans, and works closely with the community leaders.

Departmental Hiring Salary Range: $56,900.48
Essential Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Supervises, schedules, assigns and evaluates subordinates and volunteers.
- Demonstrates ability to effectively supervise subordinates and work in a team environment
- Responsible for supervision of all aspects of the branch in absence of branch manager.
- Responsible for supervising and training staff members.
- Provides customer service by assisting patrons with using library materials and services including reference questions involving resources in print and electronic formats, Internet and database searching, and community information.
- Serves on the public service desks and participates in the roving model of service throughout the library.
- Performs administrative duties by preparing and analyzing statistical reports, assisting with outreach activities, and participating in the system-wide committees as assigned.
- Participates in collection development including selection and weeding of materials.
- Provides Reader’s Advisory assistance.
- Participates in program planning and execution, displays, and/or other library projects as assigned.
- Works closely with the community leaders on Juneteenth program planning and other programs.
- Monitors the printer kiosk and reconciles it periodically for deposit.
- Monitors the facility and equipment and creates work order when applicable.
Education/Experience
Work requires specialized knowledge in a professional or technical field. Work requires professional level of knowledge of a discipline which is acquired in a Masters degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited university.
One year experience as a Librarian with management experience.
Preferred candidate will have experience in reference work, program planning and/or collection development and five years of experience working in libraries and three years of supervisory experience.

Work Hours: 40 hours per week with weekend & evening rotations
