DEFINITION
Under direction of the Parks and Recreation Director, this position performs a variety of tasks in the
operation, construction, maintenance and repair of city parks and related facilities. The position also requires
ensuring efficient and effective delivery of maintenance services, including continual improvement of
processes, management of standards and adherence to standards, and providing leadership to maintenance
personnel through and with direct reports. Supervises assigned parks maintenance staff, which includes 7
full-time, 5 seasonal, and 7 summer staff.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and review the work of staff involved in the maintenance of parks,
and related facilities.
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate full-time, part-time, seasonal and summer staff and
volunteers.
- Supervise, plan, develop, implement, evaluate and analyze a variety of services, including but not
limited to pool maintenance, special projects, park maintenance, custodial, horticulture and forestry.
- Develop and delivers safety and program-specific staff training to assure program delivery readiness.
- Develop and track division budget revenue and expenditures.
- Maintain and evaluate a variety of records, including staff training records.
- Resolve question and concern from staff and the general public.
- Possess and maintain herbicide/pesticide applicators license applicable to Parks & Recreation needs.
- Supervise a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks for the pool maintenance programs which
includes pool-related plumbing, maintenance, chemical treatment and water testing.
- Supervise the maintenance and repairs of pool structures and facilities, ensure water samples are
conducted, and proper records are maintained.
- Maintain and repair mowers, weed eaters and various other equipment and a variety of facilities in
city parks.
- Prepare for opening and closing of the swimming pools.
- Operate water sprinklers to irrigate grass, shrubbery, and flowers; installs underground sprinklers
and maintains them as needed.
- Supervise and develop the ice and snow process in designated areas.
- Utilize property safety precautions in all work performed.
- Maintain and evaluate a variety of records, including staff training records.
- Review accident/incident reports and follows up as necessary.
