GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for manually counting traffic at major traffic
intersections throughout the City. Reports to the Traffic Technician.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Responsible for performing manual traffic volume counts at major signalized traffic intersections
throughout the City, including a breakdown of lane usage according to the selected turn patterns of
drivers.
Operates a digital counting device in confined spaces for extended periods of time.
Assists Traffic Technician with the transfer of data from digital counting device to computer.
Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
Mathematics – Knowledge of basic addition, subtraction and tally sheets.
Safety - Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safety regulations related to
traffic patterns and conditions and other work related precautions.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Judgement/Decision Making –Uses logic and reasoning to understand, analyze, and evaluate
situations and exercise good judgment to make appropriate decisions.
REQUIRED ABILITIES
Communication – Ability to listen and understand directions, information and ideas presented
verbally and in writing.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work.
Some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10
pounds).
Tasks may involve extended periods of time at keyboard or work station.
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals.
