Definition
Currently there is one full-time Department Assistant vacancy in the Community Development Department at City Hall. This position will primarily support boards and commissions and provide customer service including, but not limited to, answering phone calls, assisting customers at the counter, scheduling Building inspection requests and opening Code Enforcement cases. This position will also assist staff with various projects and tasks, including processing invoices, payroll and onboarding of staff. The eligibility list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future Department Assistant vacancies as they occur throughout the City.
Selection Components:
- Application Evaluation: Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis with the first review on September 8, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. or at 150 applications, whichever occurs first. In order for the application package to be considered complete, candidates are required to attach a resume to their online application.
- Online Skills Testing: The most qualified applicants will be invited to take an online skill testing exam tentatively scheduled for the week of September 9, 2025.
- Virtual Interview: Top scoring applicants will be invited to a virtual interview tentatively scheduled for the week of September 15, 2025. Passing applicants will be placed on an eligibility list that may be used to fill future vacancies.

Experience & Education and License/Certificate
A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Three or more years of increasingly responsible secretarial and clerical experience.
Education: Equivalent to completion of high school, supplemented by coursework or training in word processing and spreadsheet software programs, and work planning and management.
License/Certificate: Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record may be required.
May be required to obtain CPR, First Aid, and/or AED (Automated external defibrillator) certifications within six months of hire.
