GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Independently performs routine clerical work in maintaining and checking financial accounts and records which involves the standardized application of accounts keeping practices and/or assists in performing more difficult and responsible phases of this work; does related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The work is primarily of routine nature and involves standard account keeping practices in maintaining and checking financial accounts and records. Account Clerks usually work under general supervision on standard assignments in accordance with detailed procedures. Supervisors are available for consultation on unusual problems. Detailed instructions are given on new assignments. The work is reviewed by immediate observation, by checking, or by another step in the account keeping process.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)
Posts to journal or ledger accounts from appropriation, expense, invoice, payroll, receipts, voucher records and other original entry media; Receives remittances by mail or in person and issues receipts for monies received; Compiles payroll data, prepares and checks time sheets; Verifies and reconciles account balances according to a prescribed procedure; Sorts, indexes and files requisitions, vouchers, ledger cards and other material; Complies data for and prepares simple financial and statistical reports; Operates computing, calculating, check writing and other office machines; Makes out checks and keeps records of checks issued; May reconcile bank statements and make deposits; Answers telephone calls and gives information on routine matters. Types financial reports, payrolls, bills, envelopes and other correspondence.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of modern methods of keeping and checking financial accounts and records; Working knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment; Working knowledge of business English; Ability to translate written and oral Spanish* to English and vice versa; Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; Ability to make arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately; Ability to write legibly; Ability to get along well with others; Clerical aptitude; Mental alertness; A high degree of accuracy, integrity, tact and courtesy.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, AND;
A. One year of experience which included compilation and maintenance of financial accounts and records, OR;
B. Successful completion of one year of clerical training.
*Spanish/ Bi-Lingual can mean another language if applicable.
