Maintenance Worker – Recreation Complex
Public Works Department
The City of Newberry is looking for a person that loves working outdoors and has a maintenance and/or landscaping background to join the Public Works Department - Maintenance team. Some work involves maintaining and operating various handheld and medium to light equipment including, but not limited to, tractor, backhoe, weed eater, front-end loader, lawn mower, and bush hog for general maintenance in the City. In this role, some days’ tasks would include replacing street signs, cleaning and repairing storm drains, cleaning City buildings and/or parking lots, spreading dirt and painting. This maintenance worker’s primary work location is at the Recreation Complex to ensure the park grounds are properly maintained. As a maintenance worker, you would be outside year-round ensuring the City’s streets are maintained.
As a member of the Public Works department, some additional job functions will include: responding to after-hours emergencies as needed, assist as a sanitation worker as needed, and applying herbicide with handheld or motorized equipment.
Public Works department hours of operation are 7am - 3pm Monday - Friday.
Requirements:
High school diploma or GED
Ability to lift and/or carry weights up to one hundred pounds.
Work in outside environment; ability to meet physical demands
Valid SC identification or driver’s license.
Starting hourly, non-exempt pay rate:
$14.72/hour

- 11 holidays per year 1 annual floating birthday
- Accrue two weeks of sick leave annually starting from date of hire
- From date of hire, accrue two weeks of vacation time annually up to 2 years of service; then accruals increase to three weeks; at 15 years of service, accruals increase to four weeks.
