Minimum Job Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
- Must meet NFPA 1582 medical standards
- Prior Fire/EMS experience is preferred but not required
- High School Diploma or GED
- Florida State Certified EMT or Paramedic
- Florida Firefighter II / Minimum Standards
- BLS or Healthcare Provider CPR certification
- Valid Florida Driver’s License
- EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operator Course) certification
- Must successfully pass a comprehensive background check
- Must be tobacco-free for one year prior to appointment and remain tobacco-free throughout employment (affidavit required)
(Representative duties include but are not limited to)
- Deliver exceptional customer service and embodies the City’s core values T.R.A.I.L.S.
- Perform fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical operations
- Operate fire apparatus and equipment safely and efficiently
- Provide emergency medical care at EMT or Paramedic level
- Receive and respond to emergency and non-emergency calls
- Conduct daily apparatus checks and maintain equipment readiness
- Complete required reports and documentation
- Participate in training, drills, and continuing education
- Maintain station cleanliness and appearance
- Perform all duties with professionalism, accountability, and a sense of urgency
- Knowledge of fire suppression, EMS operations, and rescue techniques
- Knowledge of emergency vehicle operations and defensive driving
- Familiarity with Alachua County geography preferred
- Ability to follow precise instructions under pressure
- Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergencies
- Ability to work collaboratively and maintain positive relationships
This Position Requires
- Frequent standing, walking, climbing, crawling, kneeling, and lifting
- Regular lifting of 25 lbs., frequent lifting of 50 lbs., and occasional lifting of 100 lbs.
- Full range of vision, including color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment
Work Environment
- Exposure to outdoor weather, heat, fumes, smoke, mechanical hazards
- Occasional exposure to heights, chemicals, explosives, and electrical hazards
- Loud noise levels typical of fire and rescue environments
