VEHICLE ABATEMENT OFFICER - TEMPORARY (Approximately 20 hours per week)
The City is now accepting applications for the position of Vehicle Abatement Officer (Temporary) in the Police Department. Under supervision, this position will respond to complaints from the public related to abandoned vehicles; enforce municipal and vehicle codes, and parking regulations; maintain records; and perform other duties as assigned. This is a non-sworn classification responsible for enforcing parking regulations, identifying, marking and tagging abandoned vehicles, and arranging for their removal.
Experience And Training
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The Ideal Candidate will be someone who is familiar with the variety of law enforcement support duties performed by the Vehicle Abatement Officer ranging from enforcement of parking rules and regulations in an assigned area while driving a parking enforcement motor vehicle or walking on foot. The incumbent will need to be familiar with street signs, pavement markings and parking meters; readily provide information to the public concerning any impoundments, and city ordinance violations, and also be comfortable with assisting with simple evidence collection as needed. Basic report writing and performing related work as required to assist the patrol staff, is a given.
The candidate will spend a majority of the workday outdoors in various weather conditions and be comfortable in a physically demanding position as stooping, lifting, kneeling and reaching overhead and forward, is required daily.

- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Six (6) months of experience dealing with the public in an enforcement, inspection, investigation, or high demand customer service capacity.
- Possession of a valid driver license and a satisfactory driving record throughout employment
