What are the responsibilities and job description for the Economic Analyst position at City of New York - DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION?
Minimum Qualifications: 1. For Assignment Level I (only physical, biological and environmental sciences and public health) A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health. To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above, candidates must have: 1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or 2. A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or 3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in "2" above. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in "1" and "2" above. NOTE: Probationary Period Appointments to this position are subject to a minimum probationary period of one year.
Preferred Skills: The preferred candidate is a well-organized self-starter with an enthusiasm for improving New York Citys transportation system. The candidate will be working within a fast-paced environment and must have the ability to multi-task and quickly respond to issues as they arise. In addition, the candidate should have: 1. Strong quantitative analysis skills, including experience working with large data sets and conducting statistical analysis; 2. Experience with widely-used tools for manipulating large data sets and conducting statistical analysis such as R, Python, SQL Server, and ArcGIS or QGIS; 3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office; 4. Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new software tools; 5. The ability to work as part of a team; 6. Excellent verbal and oral communication skills; and 7. A passion for transportation policy and planning in New York City. Experience with survey design and analysis is a strong plus; and experience conducting economic analysis and applying transportation economics will also be helpful. The position is full-time and requires in-office work 3 days per week. Please note that for the purposes of Minimum Qualification Requirements, economics and data science are considered social sciences.
