Role Description
The City of New Lisbon is seeking a dedicated Journeyman Lineman for a full-time, on-site position located in New Lisbon, WI. The role involves installing, maintaining and repairing power lines, managing power distribution systems, and troubleshooting electrical issues. Responsibilities also include operating heavy equipment, working on substations, and complying with safety protocols to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of power to the community. The Journeyman Lineman will perform technical and physical tasks as part of a team that supports the City's essential services.
Responsibilities
- Perform tasks associated with the installation, maintenance, repair, and inspection of the electric distribution system (primary and secondary overhead and underground lines).
- Set poles, anchors, guys, cross-arms; frame and mount transformers; pull, string, clamp, cut, splice conductors; install conduit, vaults, switching gear and associated equipment.
- Perform both energized (“hot-stick” or rubber glove) and de-energized line work when required (consistent with municipality’s policy and training).
- Assist in planning work sequences, materials/equipment needs, vehicle/truck loads, and job scheduling in collaboration with the Superintendent.
- Adhere to safety procedures (including OSHA, utility industry standards, NESC, PPE usage), conduct tailboard sessions, toolbox talks, and job site safety inspections.
- Help maintain inventory of materials, equipment, tools; track materials used on jobs and prepare associated paperwork, job logs, reports, service orders, work orders, maps, electronic records.
- Respond to after-hours emergencies, outages, storm restoration calls and participate in on-call rotation as required.
- Climb poles and work at elevated heights; operate bucket trucks, digger/derrick trucks, aerial lifts, skid steers, trenchers, backhoe as needed.
- Work in varying weather conditions including snow, ice, rain, heat, cold; follow safe practices for right-of-way tree trimming, trimming danger trees in coordination with tree-crew if applicable.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED (technical school/trade school coursework in electric power distribution or line work is highly desirable).
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or B (per municipal requirement) or the ability to obtain within ____ months of hire.
