What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Positions position at City of New Iberia Municipal Civil Service?
Accounting Clerk: Positions of this class, depending on area of assignment, perform basic accounts receivable, payable, payroll, employee benefits, purchasing, tax, routine reporting, and audit support work for the municipality, and may include trainees.
Accounting Technician: Depending on area of assignment, positions in this class apply knowledge gained by experience with the municipality’s accounting systems to perform accounts receivable, payable, payroll and employee benefits, purchasing, taxation and occasional seizure /sale of private immovable property, and occupational license functions, routine reporting and audit support work with independence within established guidelines.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Depending on area of assignment, may process direct pay requisitions, checking against approved purchase orders, verifying budgetary authorizations, identifying discrepancies, and initiating payment. May conduct the purchasing process from advertisement stage to obtaining bids/price quotes, through to final acquisition. May administer health insurance payroll deductions, collecting payments from retirees, disseminating health insurance claim information to health plan participants. May administer payroll deductions, withholdings, defined benefit retirement contributions, and State Supplement Pay and work cycle overtime matters for public safety employees. Keeps careful, error free records, runs monthly reports, discusses with supervisor, makes corrections and adjustments. May cross-train and provide support and substitutes for other employees performing work in other accounting department and tax department areas. Performs related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Completed high school and knowledge of appropriate computer spreadsheet application are required. Supplemental training in bookkeeping with adequate experience to obtain a working knowledge, depending on area of assignment, of the city’s accounting systems are desired. Must pass the civil service exam, the post-offer drug screen, physical, and work performance testing. Must be a registered voter. A copy of the high school verification and voter verification must accompany the application.
Essential Functions: Speech, hearing, vision, keyboarding ability within normal limits are required for administrative, analytical and reporting work of this position. Mobility or agility impairments can be accommodated.
