What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Gym Attendant position at City of New Hope?
Community gym attendants provide leadership in offering a safe and positive environment for rentals and recreation programs held at the city’s community gym. Attendants are responsible for facilitating gym rules and code of conduct in order to provide a safe and fun environment for the participants.
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25-50 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, frequently requires speaking or hearing, handle repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception and color perception; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, observing general surroundings and activities.
Preferred Requirements
- Maintain positive public relationsand support the New Hope Parks and Recreation Department.
- Unlock and lockcommunity gyms, maintaining secure access to the facility.
- Provide supervision of community gyms, enforcing building and facility policies and procedures.
- Manage set-up and take-down of equipment for scheduled activities.
- Perform daily clean-up of community gyms.
- Maintain all related equipment and report any damage or loss to recreation supervisor.?
- Perform necessary first aid for participants who are injured,?complete the personal injury report,and submit it to the recreation supervisor.
- Knowledge of the department’s guidelines for using the community gyms.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally.
- Ability to complete tasks in an organized and timely manner during scheduled shifts.
- Ability to keep accurate record keeping.
- Flexible, reliable, and punctual.
- Must possess excellent verbal communication skills.
- Must possess ability to work well with public.
- Must be at least 15 years of age; 16 years and older preferred.

Preferred Requirements
- Valid Minnesota driver’s license or the ability to obtain one upon hire.
- Current Concussion certification.
- Current First Aid and/or CPR certification.
- Ability to pass a BCA background check.
