What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facilities Maintenance Technician position at City of New Berlin?
Under general supervision performs maintenance work in city buildings related to general carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, painting, electrical and mechanical functions.
- Performs preventative maintenance, monitoring, and repairs of plumbing, HVAC, electrical and mechanical functions and any other building maintenance projects as assigned.
- Performs miscellaneous carpentry and masonry work.
- Performs minor low voltage and phone wiring projects.
- Perform minor electrical work.
- Assists other building maintenance techs with remodeling projects.
- Assists in performing security checks of facilities.
- Performs various light cleaning tasks.
- Sets up various city departments and buildings for various meetings and functions as required.
- Responds to after hour emergency calls for service.
- Performs snow and ice control measures including plowing, salting and shoveling.
- Availability to receive and respond to emergency calls during all hours – including evenings and weekends.
- Extensive knowledge of tools, equipment, materials, safety hazards, building codes, methods and practices used in construction, repairs and maintenance of buildings.
- Ability to perform skilled hand and bench work.
- Knowledge of HVAC systems, and related materials.
- Knowledge of tools, equipment, materials, methods and practice of painting trades.
- Ability to read blueprints, building and construction plans.
- Ability to identify safety hazards and abate them.
- Ability to self-motivate and work independently.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Computer aptitude for training purposes of all building maintenance computer related facility functions including BAS (building automation systems), and security systems.
- Snow plowing experience a plus.
- Completion of vocational or apprenticeship program in carpentry/building trades.
- Requires five years experience in various construction trades (carpentry, plumbing, or electrical) or in the building or facility maintenance field.
- Valid Wisconsin Drivers License.

- Tasks involve periods of sedentary work.
- Times where exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- Task involves period of time at a keyboard.
