Under general direction of the Utility Director, this position is responsible for all aspects of the wastewater collection system asset management of the infrastructure and other assets associated with the collection system. General duties include data collection, documenting construction additions to and repair of collection system components and underground sewer utility locating. Additionally emergency collection system service "call-outs" during and after business hours and local public/customer and contractor relations are required for this position. This position requires management and implementation of the Safety Program and the Mosquito Abatement Program. This position will also be responsible for the management and documentation of the collection of issuance of tap fees and permits.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. *Document and institutionalize system mapping, documents, digital records, components, including repairs of collection system infrastructure and underground sewer utility inspections/locating.
  2. *Initiate, update, manage and maintain GIS system and employee/customer access.
  3. *Manage permit services, fee collection and inspections/locates.
  4. *Answer emergency locate calls through emergency collection system service during and after business hours and maintain public relations with clients and customers.
  5. *Follow OSHA Regulations.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Ability to work as a team member.

  4. Manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  5. Ability to comprehend and interpret system drawings and maps.
  6. Ability to understand and utilize asset management programs.
  7. Ability to understand, interpret, instruct and coordinate others and their activities.
  8. Ability to convert basic instruction into planned operations and provide adequate documentation of operations.
  9. Frequent lifting of 50 pounds and occasional lifting in excess of 70 pounds.
  10. May stand or walk continuously for 4-6 hours per day.
  11. May sit or drive for 3-5 hours per day.
  12. Use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling and repetitive fine manipulation.
  13. Use of feet for repetitive operation of foot controls.
  14. Hearing protection required occasionally.
  15. Vision must be correctable to 20/20.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS

  1. This position requires working in both an internal and external environment.
  2. Many functions of this position will be performed outside and in extreme weather and temperature conditions including heat, cold, rain, snow, ice and dust
  3. This position requires management of entry into confined spaces such as tanks and manholes as well as routine exposure to raw sewage and wastewater.
  4. Position requires operation and working around fast moving and noisy machinery.
  5. This position requires regular exposure to high traffic and noise levels.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent certificate (GED) and demonstrate the ability to work at this level based on past experience.
  2. Class II or higher Indiana Wastewater Operator License
  3. Proficient in creating, reviewing, and modifying technical drawings using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software.
  4. Willingness to take on additional tasks as assigned.
  5. Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record.
  6. Familiar with basic OSHA stands and safety practices.
