GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: 
The purpose of the position is to perform administrative support and public relations work in operational maintenance of boat docking facilities of the City's marina. Employees in this class provide assistance in docking procedures and are responsible for assigning transient docking space and proper slips according to vessel size. Position provides security and routine maintenance to the docking areas, boats, and adjacent facilities. Incumbents operate the sales office, and perform various record maintenance duties related to such. Performs related work as directed.

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.  Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Performs routine operational maintenance for the City marina's municipal docking facilities.
  • Maintains and monitors fuel pumps, live bait wells, and fuel levels in main fueling tanks.
  • Maintains records and assignments of docking spaces; includes calculating fees and percentage discounts as applicable; generates billing statements for marina customers.
  • Operates the marina sales office; performs daily accounting and balancing of all monies processed.
  • Monitors and controls marina traffic to ensure adherence to established rules and regulations concerning slip assignments and safe boating practices; assists transient boaters in docking procedures.
  • Operates City boat as needed, and VHF radio equipment in communicating and responding to public docking/boating needs.
  • Ensures the security and safety of boats, docks, and facilities.
  • Provides overall assistance to the general public, such as providing information on water and weather conditions, marina/docking rules and regulations, and safe boating practices.          
  • Inspects boats, docks, and adjacent facilities for orderliness, adherence to safety practices and regulations, and to prevent accident or injury to personnel and patrons.
  • Responds to hazardous materials spills; ensures containment according to established regulations.

  4. Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information.
  5. Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages.
  6. Functional Reasoning: Requires ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.  Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.
  7. Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties which are often characterized by frequent change.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Supplemented by up to one (1) year previous experience and/or training in marina operations or demonstrated experience in safe boating practices
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
The City of Naples is a Tobacco-Free Workplace. Environmental Factors: Tasks may risk exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dust, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, and/or toxic/poisonous agents.
