Scalehouse Attendant
JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to perform scalehouse operations for the Solid Waste transfer station while providing administrative support to the Public Works Department and Solid Waste division.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Performs scalehouse operations, including weighing and documenting incoming and outgoing loads using automated scale systems and maintaining accurate electronic records.
- Monitors and supports traffic flow through multiple scales, including separate inbound and outbound weighing operations, to ensure efficient processing of vehicles.
- Assists customers with use of automated scale systems and kiosk functionality, including establishing accounts, providing guidance and resolving routine issues as needed.
- Processes payments and maintains related financial documentation.
- Prepares and maintains divisional reports, forms, and system records to support daily operations.
- Provides customer service functions by responding to inquiries regarding transfer station operations, policies, and procedures; Assists with service requests and coordination of work activities as needed.
- Communicates with supervisors, staff, contractors, and the public to exchange information and support daily operations.
- Performs procurement-related duties, including processingrequisitions,maintainingpurchaseorders,orderingsupplies andequipment, andcoordinating maintenance requests.
- Assists with financial processes, including invoice preparation, payment processing, expenditure tracking, monthly reconciliations, and budget support; contributes to divisional budget formulation by compiling and organizing operational and financial data and monitoring expenditures to ensure alignment with approved budgets.
- Performs administrative support functions related topersonnel processes, including maintaining records for attendance, payroll, certi?cations, andtraining; Assists with onboarding and employee support tasks.
- Processes and maintains records related to accidents, losses, and follow-up actions.
- Coordinates general office support activities, including supply procurement, service requests, mail processing, andcontract tracking.
- Processes and distributes incoming and outgoing mail and related communications.
- Maintains schedules, calendars, and routine administrative coordination tasks as needed.
- Supports employee engagement initiatives, including coordination of team events, recognition efforts, and internal activities that promote a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Maintains a safe and organized work environment in compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Utilizes computers, radios, automated scale systems, and standard office software to perform essential functions.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
- Assists with emergency operations, including the preparation of documentation for FEMA reimbursement and reporting.
- Performs other related duties as required, requested, and assigned.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by college-level coursework in business administration, bookkeeping, or office technology; three (3) years of experience in office administration, customer service, or related administrative work. An associate’s degree is preferred.
Licenses or Certifications:
Must possess a valid drivers license.
Special Requirements:
Experience with scalehouse operations, route management systems, automated scale software such as WasteWorks, or similar automated scalehouse systems preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is sedentary work. The employee is occasionally required to exert up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Additionally requires: balancing, feeling, grasping, hearing voices, manual dexterity, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, expressing ideas by the spoken word, visual acuity in data, and walking. Tasks may require the ability to: sit for extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors where essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Work is performed in a safe and secure work environment that may periodically have unpredicted requirements or demands.
