PT Swim Instructor
JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of this classification is to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens using the pool and its facilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Instructs swimming lessons, coaches recreational swim team and/or instructs water exercise classes; teaches a variety of skills, such as floating, stroke technique and endurance.
- Provides information to individuals regarding pool policies, procedures, programs, fees and other issues; responds to questions/complaints and initiates problem resolution.
- Checks in class participants; Maintains inventories of supplies, forms, and equipment; ensures availability of adequate supplies to complete work activities; initiates requests for needed materials, equipment, and supplies.
- Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, chemical reports, attendance records, or other documents.
- Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, policies, procedures, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
- Communicates with supervisor, City employees, the public, outside agencies, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, resolve problems, or give/receive advice/direction.
- Maintains an awareness of new products, methods, trends and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; maintains professional affiliations; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate. Attends in-service trainings, maintains certification, maintains required swimming skills.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs other related duties as required, requested, and assigned.
Education and Experience:
Must be at least 16 years of age.
Licenses or Certifications:
Must possess and maintain Water Safety Instructor certifications, CPR and First Aid certifications.
Special Requirements:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (20-50pounds). May occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
