The City of Mt. Pleasant is looking for two dedicated certified Police Officers to join our team. The work environment values the contributions of individual team members, strives toward continuous improvement, and has the desire to provide the highest quality law enforcement services.

Must meet the education and training requirements of the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES), Employment Standards.

The 2026 starting hourly rate is $29.60 per hour with an increase to $33.65 per hour after one year of employment (2027 compensation structure). In addition, a $1.00 per hour shift premium is applied for night hours worked between 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Working in a higher classification such as filling in as a Sergeant, working as a Field Training Officer, or on special assignment is available. Once new Officers complete the 15-week Field Training Program they will be placed on a standard 12-hour shift. The current day shift works from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and the night shift works from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. There are a total of four shifts, a day and night shift for Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and a day and night shift for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Each day and night shift alternate working on Saturday. On an annual basis, a Police Officer works a standard 2,184 hours with a variety of overtime opportunities.

Mt. Pleasant's Police Department patrols approximately eight square miles with 29 sworn officers. We provide quality on-going professional development opportunities, highly regarded community partnerships, and a strong team environment with a main focus to serve and protect the Mt. Pleasant community. Mt. Pleasant is the home of Central Michigan University and the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort. Mt. Pleasant Police Department enjoys strong cooperation with other area agencies, allowing for participation in programs such as Youth Services Unit (YSU), Emergency Services Team, MINT (Mid-Michigan Investigative Narcotics Team). Mt. Pleasant Police Officers are certified federal officers through the Federal Bureau of Indian Affairs. The department is positioned in a very unique circumstance with our community partners and work together to support fellow agencies for special events, critical incidents, and daily training operations.

Please note: all applicants who complete testing may not be invited to interview. Interviews are tentatively scheduled for April 30, 2026. We anticipate the selected candidate to begin work on June 8, 2026.

Mt. Pleasant is a growing and financially stable community located in the geographic center of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. We are a warm and friendly community dedicated to retaining our small-town traditions while building a vital economy. The area population officially stands at 21,688 but can swell to two or three times that number due to special events and the approximate 30,000 daily visitors to the Soaring Eagle Resort and Casino located at the east City limits.

We are also home to Central Michigan University’s 14,000 plus students and many of its employees. CMU offers more than 170 programs at the Bachelor, Master, and Specialist Degree levels, as well as their Medical School. Mid-Michigan College’s Mt. Pleasant Campus is an option for those who wish to transfer to a university or prepare for a career in health, business, or industrial technologies. Five other colleges and/or universities are within 45 miles of Mt. Pleasant. This community is dedicated to education and offers seven neighborhood schools, one middle school, and two high schools. There is also one parochial and two charter schools.

The Mt. Pleasant community provides an abundance of recreational and cultural opportunities ranging from hockey to chamber music concerts. Golfers are especially pleased with the 13 courses available within a 30-minute drive. The City Parks and Recreation Department offers a wide range of recreational programs for all ages, including youth soccer, softball, golf, basketball, volleyball, and tennis. The City operates and maintains 11 parks comprising 300 acres, offering venues for picnicking, swimming, fishing, canoeing, and hiking. The Isabella County park system adds another 900 acres with similar opportunities as well as camping and cross-country skiing.

The City of Mt.
