What You’ll Do
As our Recreation Program Coordinator, you’ll take the lead on planning, organizing, and delivering a wide range of recreational programs for all ages. Your work will help strengthen community engagement and ensure our parks and facilities are vibrant, welcoming, and well‑utilized.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Designing, planning, and coordinating diverse recreational and sports programs across city parks
- Meeting with community groups, schools, businesses, and media to promote programs
- Overseeing daily operations of recreational activities, including facility use, maintenance, and janitorial needs
- Managing equipment purchasing, storage, and inventory
- Preparing reports, activity summaries, and program documentation
- Coordinating facility scheduling, reservations, social media updates, and event registration
- Monitoring patron agreements and implementing program standards and policies
- Managing vendor contracts and promoting public awareness of all recreational offerings
- Attending community meetings and building strong partnerships
- Recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers (coaches, mentors, tutors, etc.)
- Researching and writing grants, securing sponsorships, and cultivating donations
- Communicating program details to parents, participants, and user groups
- Maintaining the city website and supporting seasonal staff, referees, and umpires
- Assisting with budget development and operating a city vehicle as needed
- Representing the department with professionalism and enthusiasm at events, including nights, weekends, and holidays
What You Bring

Required Knowledge & Skills:
- Understanding of city policies, procedures, and recreation operations
- Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate diverse recreational programs
- Knowledge of sports programming and event organization
- Strong communication skills—both written and verbal
- Ability to supervise youth, staff, and volunteers
- Problem‑solving, decision‑making, and organizational skills
- Basic computer proficiency
- Ability to obtain job‑related certifications (First Aid/CPR, referee/umpire, etc.)
Supervisor Responsibilities
This position includes supervisory duties such as staff oversight, volunteer coordination, scheduling, and contributing to management decisions related to programming and operations.
