Overview
The City of Mt. Vernon, a community of 4,527, is a progressive community situated within Linn County. The city is accepting applications to fill an opening in the Public Works Department. The candidate will assist in day-to-day operations in the street department and is under the direction of the Lead Operator and Public Works Director.
The successful candidate will need to have knowledge of practices, techniques, equipment, tools, materials and supplies used in street construction, maintenance and repair. Entry level knowledge of safety regulations, protocols, principles, practices and procedures for street construction, maintenance and repair; ground maintenance and erosion repair control are preferred but not required. Candidates will possess the ability to learn and follow techniques in excavation, watermain repair, park maintenance and snow removal. Candidates will be responsible for maintaining a positive attitude with staff and the public as well as a willingness to learn and work with others in a team-oriented environment.
Applicant must have a High School diploma or GED. Applicants must have the ability to maintain a valid Iowa Driver’s license, CDL certification with air brakes or ability to obtain CDL with air brakes and pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical.
