Job Function:

Performs specialized work leading and supporting assigned programs and activities within the Resource and Recreation Center. This position serves as the primary point of contact for specific program areas, ensuring high-quality delivery, participant engagement, and day-to-day operational success. Promotes positive relationships with youth, families, and community groups. May supervise part-time staff or rec aides during program hours. The employee is responsible for direct oversight of assigned program areas and must exercise independence, initiative, and strong decision-making. This position is based at the Resource and Recreation Center, which operates seven (7) days a week. Work schedules may include evenings and weekends based on facility operations and programming needs.

Essential Duties:

  1. Leads assigned programs within the Resource and Recreation Center, ensuring consistent, high-quality delivery.
  2. Maintains order, discipline, and safety within program areas.
  3. Assists with the development, planning, and implementation of program activities.
  4. Coordinates setup and breakdown of program spaces to ensure readiness for daily use.
  5. Provides direct supervision of participants and families within assigned program areas.
  6. Assists with promotion and outreach efforts to support program participation and awareness.
  7. Maintains inventory of program supplies and communicates needs for replenishment.
  8. Serves as the primary point of contract for participants and families within assigned program areas.
  9. Supports overall facility operations as needed, including assisting in other areas during peak times.
  10. Assists in maintaining clean, organized, and safe program environments and equipment.
  11. Performs related duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Work requires constant standing, walking, bending, pushing and pulling.
  • Requires occasional sitting, reaching overhead and climbing.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of public recreation programs and the needs of age group levels.
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to provide leadership and guidance to all age groups.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, employees and the general public.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports as required.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with parents and other customers.


Required Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum age of 16.
  • One year experience in recreation programming or recreation center operations.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • General knowledge of various recreational programs and activities required.
  • Must have knowledge of the behavior of children of a variety of age levels.
  • Ability to deal with the general public of all ages tactfully and effectively.
  • Must be physically able to participate in sports instruction.
  • Ability to develop positive interest in recreational activities necessary.
  • Willing to work nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Complete the required National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within 6 months of completion of probationary period.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License required.



Essential Physical Skills:


  • Must be able to operate a variety of recreational equipment, arts and crafts materials and supplies, and Windows based computer systems.
  • Must be able to lift and transport equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction)
  • Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid)
  • Must complete sexual harassment training annually


Environmental Conditions:


  • Works in an indoor and outdoor environment.
