Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to develop, plan and implement recreational programs for the city of Montgomery. Job incumbents will also supervise volunteers during on-going activities. The work responsibilities of this classification are: plans, coordinates and implements daily general recreation programs for individuals; assists in the coordination of transportation to and from the facilities and out of town trips; coordinates and supervises the activities of Recreation Aides and volunteers; maintains daily and weekly records, reports, forms, equipment, materials and supplies used for program activity. The Recreation Leader I reports to the Recreation Leader II.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent and one (1) year of experience in an organized recreational programs.

NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Must be willing to work flexible hours, evenings and weekends. Employment is conditioned upon applicants acquiring and maintaining a commercial driver's license (CDL) in accordance with the provisions of the Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1986 and providing a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) from the Department of Public Safety as proof of an insurable driving record. CDL must be obtained within six (6) months of employment.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancy and any other vacancies that may occur during the life of the register. The current vacancy is with the City of Montgomery Parks and Recreation Department. Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and supplemental questionnaire. For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application and supplemental question form completely, providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them where and exactly what their duties were. If more than five qualified applications are received, the application will be scored to rank the qualified applicants on the eligible register and tied scores will not be broken. If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
