The Grant Compliance Coordinator ensures that the Department of Community Wellness and Safety (DCWS) conforms with all programmatic, fiscal, and reporting requirements for grants and contracts, while supporting the strategic alignment of external funding with departmental goals.


Essential Functions

Budgeting and Accounting

  • Oversee financial management for DCWS grant-funded initiatives.
  • Ensure DCWS compliance with all programmatic, fiscal, and reporting requirements for grants and contracts, including monitoring deadlines, maintaining required documentation, and supporting audits and funder requests.
  • Process, review, and track invoices and cost reports within the City’s financial management system to ensure accuracy, allowability, timely payment, and proper documentation.
  • Oversee grant and tax levy budgets by tracking expenditures, reconciling accounts, and ensuring spending aligns with approved budgets, funding restrictions, and departmental priorities.
  • Prepare, review, and validate expenditure reports, billing statements, invoices, cost reports, and fiscal grant reports to ensure accuracy, compliance, and readiness for internal and external review.
  • Collaborate with programmatic managers and departmental leadership to support grant planning, implementation, reporting alignment, and strategic use of funding.


Evaluation and Reporting of Finding

  • Collaborate closely with the finance team and the Comptroller’s Office to ensure accurate fiscal reporting of grant budgets and expenditures.
  • Track funding activity, support accurate accounting and budgeting, and manage both grant and tax levy funds.
  • Maintain fiscal accountability, transparency, and sustainability across all DCWS funding sources.
  • Maintain internal tracking systems for grants, contracts, and funding activity, and prepare accurate internal and external reports to ensure transparency for stakeholders, the Mayor’s Office, and the Common Council.
  • Manage grant-related financial activity within the City’s financial management system, including data entry, tracking, reconciliation, and coordination with finance and accounting partners.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, accounting, finance, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  2. Two years of professional accounting, budgeting, financial management, and/or grant administration experience.
  3. Valid driver's license at the time of appointment and throughout employment.


Equivalent combinations of education, training and experience may also be considered.

Current Salary

The current salary range (Pay Range 2HX) is $58,656-$83,952 annually, and the current resident incentive salary range for City of Milwaukee residents is $61,002-$87,311 annually. Appointment above the minimum is possible based upon level of experience and other qualifications and is subject to approval.
