JOB TITLE: Utility Worker
DEPARTMENT: Public Works
REPORTS TO: Director of Public Works
PAY RANGE: $19.00-19.50 per hour per hour (based on experience) with potential for overtime
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-Time
WORK LOCATION: In-Person, 1246 Louisville Hwy, Goodlettsville, TN 37049
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Public Works Director, the Utility Worker is responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the construction, maintenance, and repair of the sewer collection system. Additional responsibilities include building maintenance, right-of-way upkeep, drainage improvements and repairs, litter control, and bulk and brush pickup.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain and repair the sewer collection system, equipment, tools, vehicles, buildings, signs, and drainage infrastructure.
- Operate a variety of heavy and light equipment, including but not limited to trucks, tractors, backhoes, ditch witches, skid steers, and jet rodders.
- Assist in general construction, repair, and maintenance of public infrastructure.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and industry best practices.
- Participate in the department’s oncall rotation as required.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience in construction, utility maintenance, or a related field is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Basic understanding of materials, tools, and equipment used in sewer line construction, maintenance, and repair.
- Ability to learn and apply mechanical, electrical, and maintenance concepts related to pumps and utility systems.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Effective problemsolving and teamwork abilities to collaborate with colleagues and interact with the public.
- Capability to perform strenuous physical labor, including lifting, digging, climbing, and operating equipment under various weather conditions.
- Willingness to work in confined spaces such as manholes and lift stations.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work may be performed in various outdoor environments, including extreme weather conditions.
- Potential exposure to odors, fumes, chemicals, and other hazardous materials.
- Requires physical endurance, including lifting objects up to 75 pounds, frequent bending, stooping, crouching, and climbing.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required.
