SUMMARY OF POSITION: The City of Milford is committed to providing its citizens and customers with increased service and satisfaction through efficient review and processing of permit applications, prompt, effective and accurate field inspections, and an assurance of safe, code compliant construction through a commitment to expanded use of technologies, as well as courteous and professional interaction.

This is supervisory and technical work enforcing compliance with building codes and regulations. Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Permitting & Land Use or Chief Building Official, an employee in this class is responsible for directing the inspection of all buildings to determine adherence to standards of construction, maintenance and safety involving structural, plumbing, electrical and heating components. Work requires a basic understanding of technical construction projects. Supervision is exercised over a group of technical inspectors and clerical subordinates concerned with obtaining compliance with building, electrical, plumbing and related codes and ordinances, and effectively communicates the progress and status to the DPLU Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or a closely related field AND four (4) years of progressively responsible experience as a licensed building official, contractor, architect or professional engineer or in the enforcement of building regulations affecting complex structures OR any equivalent combinations of education, training and experience. Possession of a valid State of Connecticut building official license issued by the Department of Construction Services. Possession of a valid State of Connecticut motor vehicle driver's license.

Preferences: Professional licensure as an Architect or Engineer.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must attach a copy of the required licenses to the application.

SCOPE OF EXAMINATION: Applicants will be ranked according to their Oral Board Examination score and their training and experience as indicated on Application Supplement #25-05. Applicants are required to carefully complete the application form and supplement, listing all related training and/or work experience.
