Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Lead, the Maintenance Facilities Technician performs skilled maintenance and repair work across all City facilities, and recreational sites. This position oversees the maintenance of building systems (electrical, HVAC, plumbing, pool, and structural) and assists the Maintenance Lead in planning and coordinating major projects.

  • Skilled Trades Maintenance: Execute carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, HVAC, and pool-related repairs and installations.
  • Aquatic Facility Upkeep: Maintain pool systems (pumps, motors, control circuits, dehumidifiers, telemetry), monitor water chemistry, and handle hazardous chemicals safely.
  • Carpentry: Construct, install, remodel, and repair cabinets, partitions, walls, doors, windows, roofs, and related structures.
  • Electrical Work: Install, troubleshoot, and repair outlets, fixtures, ballasts, switches, conduit, low-voltage wiring, and data/phone cabling.
  • Painting & Finishing: Prepare and finish interior/exterior surfaces using paints, varnishes, enamels, and protective coatings.
  • HVAC & Refrigeration: Work with certified technicians to oversee service, test, calibrate, and repair heating, cooling, and refrigeration equipment.
  • Safety & Compliance: Follow all OSHA, federal, state, and local safety regulations; maintain a clean, safe work environment.
  • Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate logs (manual and computerized) of work performed, materials used, and equipment status.
  • Customer Service: Respond to public inquiries and service requests promptly and courteously.
  • Emergency Response: Perform urgent repairs as needed, including off-hour call-outs.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional assignments as directed.

Essential Functions

Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of various positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.

 

  1. Performs skilled maintenance and repair of City facilities, including basic carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical work, ventilation, heating & air conditioning (HVAC), and pool maintenance; assists with semi- skilled work as needed.
  2. Performs routine to complex pool area repair and maintenance, including control circuits, motors, wiring, electrical circuits, ventilation gear, pumps, pipes, feed lines, dehumidifiers, telemetry systems, and other equipment; maintains water chemistry and safely handles and stores hazardous chemicals; inspects and performs maintenance on dehumidifiers; and ensures the cleanliness of assigned facilities.
  3. Repairs and replaces plumbing fixtures, including sinks, toilets, faucets, and pipes.
  4. Performs carpentry work, including the construction, installation, remodeling, and repair of cabinets, partitions, walls, windows, doors, roofs, foundations, and other carpentry work.
  5. Performs electrical repair, installation, and troubleshooting of faulty outlets, light ballasts, switches, light fixtures, and transformers; installs electrical, conduit, and wiring; installs hardware and wiring for computers; puts connectors on cabling; moves phone lines.
  6. Prepares surfaces for painting or repainting; appropriately applies paint, varnish, shellac, enamel, lacquer, and other protective or decorative finishes to various interior and exterior surfaces using and operating the appropriate equipment.
  7. Assists with the selection and supervision of independent contractors and helps monitor existing contracts with service providers.
  8. Installs, adjusts, repairs, inspects, tests, calibrates, troubleshoots, maintains, and services a wide variety of HVAC and refrigeration equipment.

  10. Operates, maintains, and repairs a variety of mechanical and power tools, equipment, and testing instruments.
  11. Reads and interprets technical manuals, sketches, and diagrams to facilitate installation, servicing, repair, and replacement services and activities.
  12. Observes safe work methods and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment; ensures compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations.
  13. Maintains public facilities, storage sites, and other work areas in a clean and orderly condition, including securing equipment at the close of the workday.
  14. Maintains accurate manual and computerized logs and records of work performed and materials and equipment used; prepares reports as required.
  15. Responds to requests and complaints from the public and answers questions or refers to supervisor, as necessary.
  16. Responds to and performs emergency repairs and other emergency services, as necessary.
  17. May be called to be the project manager for facility/park improvements.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Proficiency in multiple trades (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, pool systems).
  • Ability to plan, schedule, and prioritize maintenance projects.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations and preventive maintenance practices.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with staff, contractors, and the public.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate degree or technical certification preferred.
  • Two (2) years of building or facility maintenance experience
  • Valid driver’s license required.

 

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Combination of indoor and outdoor work; exposure to weather, noise, chemicals, confined spaces, and mechanical/electrical hazards.
  • Frequent walking, climbing, stooping, lifting (up to 75 lbs.), and operation of vehicles and equipment.
  • Must communicate clearly in person and by phone; read detailed instructions and computer screens.

Hours & Travel

  • Part-time (20 hours/week) on-call rotation for evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Limited local travel between City facilities.

Education & Experience
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to:

  • Associate’s degree (or equivalent) in facilities maintenance or related field or
  • High school diploma (or equivalent) plus three years of building maintenance experience, including one or more skilled trades.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid driver’s license.​​​​​​​
