The Accounting Specialist I classification is a full-time entry-level position on the City's Finance team. The incumbent performs cashiering and clerical duties with attention to detail and interacts with walk-in customers and phone callers with professionalism and courtesy.
- Provides exceptional customer service to the public. Interacts with visitors and performs duties of cashiering with professionalism and courtesy.
- Answers the telephone, transfers calls, and provides information related to the Finance department.
- Receives monies for the payment of bills, fees, or fines from the public or through the mail.
- Uses cash drawer to process and record transactions according to procedures and processes such payments in the City's accounting system.
- Batches and balances cash drawer to system/register totals daily.
- Reconciles monies received against receipts, bills, register tapes, vouchers, or various distributions to general ledger accounts.
- Maintains receipts activity spreadsheets.
- Maintains files and records, assists the department with photocopying, scanning and other clerical work when assigned.
- Processes incoming and outgoing mail and parcels.
- Builds and maintains positive working relationships with co-workers and other employees.
- Performs other duties as required and assigned.
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
- One (1) year of related work experience
- Must possess a satisfactory credit rating

This is a full-time position with benefits. Work hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:45 PM. This position is covered under the City of Miami Springs General Pension Plan which requires a mandatory pre-tax contribution, which is 5.87% for fiscal year
